The Camaro is an American Muscle car classic that many people drool over as kids and pursue as adults. The Z/28 is the not the quickest, the fastest, or the most powerful Camaro on the market, but it has taken the prize of being the most expensive Camaro from the factory at $75,000. The reason for this price tag becomes obvious when considering the amount of equipment borrowed from Chevy’s Formula 1 team.

One of the first things anyone will notice upon first glance of the new Z/28 is that it has a much more aggressive and wider stance than any other Camaros. Also, the Z/28 has the widest front tires of any production car today. The Pirelli P Zero Rs are essentially street-legal racing tires that have so much grip and are so tacky that, during the development testing stages, they occasionally stuck to the pavement better than to the 19”, matte black rims that the rubber was actually mounted to. The massive front tires are the exact same size as the rear tires, reducing any penchant for understeer. A large front diffuser, extended side skirts, unique rear diffuser and front bumper and large deck lid spoiler set this Camaro apart from the other Camaros in Chevy’s lineup. Other noticeable differences are the hood venting directly in the center of the hood and the quad exhaust tips at the rear.

Chevrolet has not made too many drastic interior changes from the other Camaros other than the Z/28 badging on the headrests of the RECARO performance bucket seats, dashboard and embroidered in the carpets. A leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel with entertainment controls pairs nicely with the short-throw shifter for superior driving feel Other additional features can be had if the “Sole Option” package is purchased, adding five extra speakers to the already impressive 6-speaker audio system as well as air conditioning.

Borrowing the port-injected LS7 V8 from the 2013 Corvette Z06, this monstrous engine produces 505 horsepower and 481 ft-lb of torque. This amount of power matched with those super tacky tires can propel the Z/28 from zero to 60 in just 4.4 seconds, rocketing to an electronically limited 155 mph. The six-speed transmission is geared for road-course duty, having closer ratios passed through a shorter 2.91:1 final drive.
