2012 Lamborghini Urus Concept

The 2012 Lamborghini Urus Concept is something true fans might consider anathema: an SUV. This concept was introduced at the Beijing Auto Show in 2012 by Lamborghini president and CEO Stephan Winkelmann, who waxed enthusiastic about the vehicle. “Uncompromising, extreme and Italian” is how Winkelmann described the monster SUV that some have described as what would the byproduct of an unholy alliance between a Lambo Gallardo and a Porsche Cayenne.

The Lamborghini Concept is nothing if not unmistakable in its appearance with a powerful, but not bulky, look. Being a Lamborghini it also has an air of elegance about it with 24-inch wheels that add just a whiff of aggressiveness. (The brakes attached to those wheels are cooled by carbon fiber vents.

At 197 inches in length, it slots in nicely in the sporty SUV class. (This would truly put the sport in sport utility vehicle.) Its height of 65 inches – less than 5.5 feet high – makes it significantly lower than the competition. It maintains its super athlete dimensions with a wide of just 78.3 inches.

The 2012 Lamborghini Urus Concept features no sideview mirrors. Instead, to keep its lines sleek, sideview rear cameras provide the driver with views left and right. It also has LED headlamps. With low-profile tires, you wouldn’t want to do much off-road driving in this SUV.

The interior of the Lamborghini Concept showcases seating for 4 adults in bucket seats made from carbon-fiber-tech Forged Composite. A customizable TFT display sits behind the multi-function steering wheel and displays instrument and gauge information. Rear passengers enjoy their own touchscreens for entertainment.

The 2012 Lamborghini Urus Concept would most likely be powered by a twin-turbo V-8 with 600 horsepower. Lambo says it would also have the segment’s lowest CO2 emissions. Then again, it’s not a huge market segment to begin with.
