Jaguar Light is an exploration for a design philosophy cantered on lightness. Hitesh Panchal’s research into light and its several definitions allowed a ‘model of light’ to be defined. The design language was formed around key areas from this model; a sense of visual reduction and an economical use of materials – pursuing to do more with less through forms and surface transitions.

Inspired by the decorative and structural properties of aluminium foam and honeycomb, the resulting structure is a single, sculpted form where both exterior and interior are seamlessly intertwined. The concept not only references light through physical weight but conforms to a visual language of lightness.

The thinner, more delicate aesthetic treatment, along with lower hidden volumes and thin wheels alter the perceived visual weight of the vehicle. This visual lightness is further enhanced through the sculpted nature of the double curvature forms which highlight material flexibility. The open interior is equally sculptural, yet minimalist being freed by the integration of drive-by-wire and digital technologies.

The concept has focused on developing an understanding of the relationship between materials, form and light and ultimately how these challenge our perceptions of safety, comfort and our sensory experiences.
