About This Car

- Quick Specs -

In 1978, there were just 1,200 special edition Black Knight El Caminos made; production stopped in June due to a lawsuit, which forced the package to be renamed the Royal Knight for 1979. So popular was the special edition that back in the period, car dealers would clone other super sport models to mimic the Black Knight. In addition, 1978 was the last model year the El Camino came with a 350 motor, with subsequent years having a 305 motor. The Royal Knight was produced in the regular El Camino line up until 1980; afterwards, it became a special order, until 1983, when it was discontinued.

170 hp, 350 cu. in. overhead valve V-8 engine, column shift automatic transmission, coil springs and shocks with rear semi-elliptic leaf springs, and power front disc and rear drum brakes. Wheelbase: 117 in.
