From Citroen press: Many changes were made to the 2 CV in the fifties. The big news in 1951 was the launch of the 2 CV van (type AU).


The next step forward was made in 1954, when Citroën increased the 2CV’s engine capacity to 425 cm3.

In December 1956, Citroën launched the type AZL version of the 2 CV. With its large, rectangular rear window and fabric hood, this was Citroën’s luxury version of the 2 CV.

Production continued to grow, in 1956 reaching 95,864 saloon units. This figure topped the 100,000 mark in the following year. The 1950s were the 2 CV’s salad days. And the best was still to come…
